Setting apart our lips
Vocal recording dates are coming up!
Once again, we (the recording member) are trying to set apart our ears/lips/heart for the Lord. Yes... we are trying not to listen to secular music, or to sing it. (Unless it's part of school work or something...) Until the recording is over (for about a month).
It's a 'fast' for our ears. Many of my friends are fasting something they like for the holy month of lent before Easter. Like desserts, or red meat, chocolate, coffee, etc... Whenever you fast, you realize again how much you like what you are fasting, and how our flesh can easily long for our desires.
I don't want to make it a legalistic thing, like if you don't do this you are not worthy to sing in choir or anything like that. I actually don't even know how many people actually do what I ask them to do. It's something between the singers and God. From the people who actually try to do it, I get really good response. They say that it makes them feel more sensitive to what God speaks to them.
I know that for some people it's hard. It's hard for me too, and it's been a while I followed secular music seriously. But when the familiar tune (oldies) is playing in the background of super market, I find myself humming the tune and go "oops". We are so surrounded by music, lyrics, art, media, messages after messages that is not from God.
I think it's good even just to be aware that we are flooded by it. We realize it's kind of scary. :)
So pray for us. Pray for our recording members.
So that they may really enjoy the music given to us from God.
And that the recording room may turn into a tabernacle of meeting, as we worship...
And that we may become the holy vessels set apart for God's work.
